Fighting Slavery: Barak Pierson’s hand-built cathedral clock—crafted as a wedding gift for his bride Libbie in 1883—traveled with the family from Iowa and Kansas to California, surviving drought, cross-country moves, disassembly, and eventual restoration.
A Clock Made with Love: Mary and Barak Smith, devoted Quaker abolitionists, operated an Underground Railroad station in Collins, New York, courageously defying the harsh penalties of the 1850 Fugitive Slave Law.
